Poliomyelitis

Poliomyelitis, also known as polio, is a serious and highly contagious infectious disease caused by a virus. It mainly affects children under 5 years old, but can also cause paralysis and even death in adults. Symptoms of polio include fever, fatigue, headache, muscle pain and stiffness, and paralysis. There is no cure for polio, but it can be prevented through vaccination. Vaccination is the most effective way to protect against polio and help eradicate it globally. Polio has been a major public health problem for centuries, and eradication efforts have been successful in many areas of the world, although the virus remains endemic in some countries. Vaccination can help protect against re-emergence of the disease.
