Natural Antibiotics
Natural antibiotics are compounds found in nature which exhibit antimicrobial activity. They are produced by bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms as a defense mechanism against invaders. They are becoming increasingly important in medicine due to the growing concern about the development of antibiotic resistance to synthetic antibiotics. Natural antibiotics have been used for centuries to treat a variety of conditions from infections to cancer, and recent research has revealed a wide range of potential therapeutic uses. Natural antibiotics can be used to target specific pathogens, reducing the chances of causing harm to the host; they are also more cost-effective than synthetic antibiotics, and their use could help to reduce the spread of antibiotic resistance.
