Echinococcus
granulosus Echinococcus granulosus is an intestinal parasite, found mainly in dogs, that can cause serious health complications in humans. Through its eggs, this parasite can cause a condition called echinococcosis, or hydatid disease, which can lead to cysts forming in the liver, lungs, and other organs. If the cysts rupture, they can cause severe inflammation and other severe symptoms. In addition, if the cysts are not immediately treated, they can grow and spread to other areas of the body. Treatment for echinococcosis includes surgery, medication, or both. Prevention of the disease can be done by preventing dogs from coming into contact with potential sources of the parasite, such as other animals or contaminated food.
