Disease Ecology
Disease Ecology is the study of how hosts, parasites, and their environment interact and affect each other. By investigating the transmission and spread of infectious diseases, scientists can better understand how to prevent and mitigate outbreaks of emerging or re-emerging diseases, as well as how to improve public health. Disease ecology relies on an interdisciplinary approach, combining the knowledge and expertise of epidemiologists, ecologists, and other scientists from diverse fields such as biomedical sciences and public health. By understanding the intricate links between disease and its environment, disease ecologists can, for instance, alert health professionals and the public on the potential risks associated with infectious diseases and recommend measures for effective prevention or control.
