Dermatomyositis
Dermatomyositis is a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by inflammation and muscle weakness. The most common signs and symptoms include a skin rash and muscle weakness, particularly of the proximal muscles (near the trunk). Dermatomyositis can affect people of all ages, but is most common in young adults and older people. It is often accompanied by other autoimmune conditions, including lupus and scleroderma. Treatment typically involves medications to reduce inflammation, physical therapy to maintain mobility, and skin care to manage the rash. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to reduce complications and improve prognosis.
