Behcet's Disease
Behcet’s Disease is a rare, chronic inflammatory condition affecting the blood vessels of many organs, including the eyes, skin, joints and brain. It is characterised by chronic and recurrent inflammation of the eyes and mouth, along with skin lesions and joint pain. The cause of Behcet’s Disease is unknown, but it is thought to be related to an autoimmune response. Treatment is focused on reducing inflammation, relieving symptoms and preventing complications. Due to its rarity, Behcet’s Disease is often misdiagnosed and its diagnosis can require a significant amount of time and resources. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to prevent more serious complications, such as blindness, strokes and organ failure.
