Autophagy
Autophagy is a complex process that cells use to break down and recycle their own contents. This process plays a key role in numerous cellular functions, such as maintaining healthy cells and responding to stressful situations, like nutrient deprivation and oxidative stress. Autophagy can also be important in diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s, by either contributing to the cause of the condition or acting as a potential therapeutic target. By understanding how autophagy works, scientists hope to develop better treatments for these conditions and uncover new insights into how our cells work.
