Salmonellosis

Salmonellosis is an infectious disease caused by certain types of bacteria, primarily Salmonella enterica. It is one of the most common foodbourne illnesses and is spread by consuming contaminated food products. Symptoms include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea. People with weakened immune systems, young children and elderly individuals are more prone to severe infections with this bacteria. It is important to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of salmonellosis, such as proper food handling, thorough cooking of all meats, and washing of hands and surfaces. Treatment includes antibiotics, which should be prescribed by a doctor.
