Rotavirus Infection
Rotavirus is a virus that causes severe diarrhea and vomiting in children. It is the most common cause of severe diarrhea among infants and young children, and it is estimated that it causes over 200,000 deaths each year. It is contagious and can spread easily through contact with an infected person's feces. Rotavirus is responsible for more than half of hospitalizations due to severe diarrhea and vomiting among children worldwide. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent rotavirus infection, and routine vaccination is recommended in many countries. Treatment of rotavirus infection consists of supportive care, such as oral rehydration and food or fluid replacement, and antibiotics should only be used in cases of secondary bacterial infection.
