Prognostic Factors
Prognostic factors are characteristics of a person or an illness that are used to predict the future course of the illness. They are important for medical decision-making, such as when deciding on a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or for predicting the outcome of a medical condition. Prognostic factors can also be used to identify those at higher risk of developing a particular condition or of suffering a poor outcome. This knowledge can be used to tailor treatments and improve patient outcomes. Knowing prognostic factors can also provide researchers with information on which to design better tests and treatment plans.
