Paratuberculosis

Paratuberculosis is a contagious, long-term infection in animals, including cattle, sheep, and goats, caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP). It affects the animal's gut and can lead to decreased milk production, weight loss, and even death. As the infection can be spread through milk, meat, and other animal products, it is a potential public health concern. Several methods are available to diagnose and treat paratuberculosis, including fecal tests, milk tests, and tissue cultures. Vaccines are available in some countries to prevent the spread of the infection. As the bacterium can survive in the environment, proper disinfection and hygiene are important to control the disease.
