Motilin
Motilin is a hormone produced in the small intestine and is an important regulator of gastrointestinal (GI) motility and gut secretion. It plays a role in stimulating contractions of the stomach and intestine to facilitate digestion and emptying. Motilin is also known to play a role in controlling appetite, helping to adjust food intake according to energy needs. It has been suggested that motilin could be targeted to treat various GI conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome and functional dyspepsia. Moreover, motilin agonists are being studied for the treatment of gastrointestinal dysmotility in certain neurological conditions where GI motility is impaired. Motilin is a promising therapeutic target for GI disorders and its use in clinical settings is likely to grow in the future.
