Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is an aggressive type of cancer that affects the mesothelium, a protective tissue covering the lungs, chest cavity, heart, and abdominal organs. It is usually caused by exposure to asbestos, a fibrous mineral that has been used in building materials for centuries. The only known cause of mesothelioma is asbestos exposure, making it a unique and deadly form of cancer. Mesothelioma can take up to 50 years to manifest, making it difficult to diagnose or treat in its early stages. Treatment options include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery. In some cases, a combination of these treatments may be used. Unfortunately, even with treatment, mesothelioma is often fatal. Asbestos is still used in some industries today, making it important for workers to be aware of the risks and to take the proper safety measures. Advances in screening and treatments for mesothelioma have made it easier for the disease to be detected earlier, allowing for more successful treatment.
