Laparotomy
Laparotomy is a type of abdominal surgery in which a large incision is made through the abdomen. This technique is used to diagnose or treat many abdominal and pelvic diseases and conditions. Laparotomy is a common and important procedure for treating cancer, appendix, gallbladder, liver and ovarian diseases, as well as pelvic organ damage or infertility. Laparotomy is also used to close up certain types of hernias and can be used to correct gynaecologic and colorectal issues. In addition to its obvious medical benefits, laparotomy helps to protect against further injury to the abdominal area, including potentially fatal infections. In many cases, laparotomy can help improve the quality of life for patients.
