Giardiasis

Giardiasis is an infection in humans caused by the parasite Giardia. Symptoms of the infection include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fatigue, and weight loss. It is spread through contaminated food and water and can be treated with medication. Giardiasis is an important public health issue, as it is the most commonly reported intestinal parasitic infection in the Western World. It is also a major cause of mortality and morbidity in developing countries. Giardiasis can cause long-term health issues and can be especially severe in young children and immunocompromised individuals. Proper hygiene, improved access to clean drinking water, and timely diagnosis are key to preventing and controlling the spread of the infection.
