Endotoxemia
Endotoxemia is a condition caused by the presence in the body of bacterial endotoxins. Endotoxins are molecules released by certain types of bacteria as they are dying or lysing, and they can cause a variety of serious medical problems when they enter the bloodstream. Endotoxemia is a particularly serious medical problem as it can lead to shock, organ failure, and even death. It is most often caused by infections such as sepsis, meningitis, and urinary tract infections. Treatment of endotoxemia usually involves antibiotics, fluids, and supportive care. Prevention is the best way to avoid a dangerous and potentially fatal case of endotoxemia, so proper hygiene, vaccinations, good nutrition, and prompt medical care are essential.
