Endoderm

Endoderm refers to the innermost of the three germ layers that develop during the early stages of embryonic development in animals. It is a crucial component of an embryo and can form the components of the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, as well as certain glands, such as the pancreas and liver. Endoderm also plays an important role in the regulation of the body, with malfunctioning endodermal tissue being linked to a variety of medical conditions. Due to its vital functions, endoderm research has seen a spike in recent years, with many researchers striving to understand how it develops and how it can be manipulated to improve treatment methods for medical conditions.
