Endocytosis
Endocytosis is a process used by cells to bring in materials from their environment by enclosing the material in a bubble-like structure, called a vesicle. This process is essential for cells to take up nutrients, eliminate waste, and interact with their environment in order to grow, develop, and function normally. Endocytosis is also important in cell signaling and membrane transport, as well as in the development and functioning of the immune system. Because endocytosis plays such a vital role in cells, it has become an area of intense study for researchers trying to understand how cells work and how to improve their functioning.
