Duodenum

The duodenum is the first part of the small intestine, located between the stomach and the jejunum. It is important in the digestion of food, as it is where digestion begins after food passes through the stomach. During this process, digestive juices produced by the pancreas and liver are secreted into the duodenum, breaking down fats, proteins, and carbohydrates for absorption into the body. Duodenum disorders can lead to malabsorption, nutrient deficiencies, pancreatitis, and gallstones, so it is important to monitor and maintain healthy duodenum functioning. Treatment of duodenum disorders typically involves lifestyle changes, medication, or surgery.
