Clostridium Tetani

Clostridium tetani is a Gram-positive, spore-forming bacteria. It is the cause of the disease tetanus. Tetanus is an infection that is characterised by muscle spasms, difficulty swallowing, and painful convulsions. It is spread through contact with the spores of the bacteria, which are usually found in soil. The spores are hardy, which means they are resistant to many disinfectants, making them difficult to eradicate when present. Treatment for tetanus includes a combination of antibiotics, antitoxins, and supportive care. Vaccination is the most effective method of prevention, as it can provide robust long-term protection. Clostridium tetani is an important pathogen and is therefore a key target of public health interventions worldwide.
