Cholelithiasis

Cholelithiasis is the medical term for the presence of one or more gallstones in the gallbladder or bile duct. Gallstones are solid deposits of bile, mostly made up of cholesterol, bile pigments, and calcium salts. If left untreated, cholelithiasis can lead to symptoms ranging from mild abdominal discomfort to severe pain, nausea, vomiting and other complications. Treatment may involve medications, non-surgical procedures or surgical removal of the gallbladder. Early detection is critical for timely treatment and to prevent serious health conditions.
