Proteomics

Proteomics is a branch of biotechnology that studies and monitors the structure, function, and interactions of proteins within a biological system. Proteins are essential components of the cells and have a wide range of roles, such as the transport of molecules or the generation of energy. Proteomics helps to understand how these proteins interact with each other, in different conditions and within different organisms, thus allowing us to better comprehend health and disease and to develop treatments for them. Moreover, it also provides insights about the regulation of gene expression, since proteins control the activation of genes. Therefore, proteomics helps to advance basic research, drug design, and the development of personalized medicine.
