Absorption Spectra

Absorption spectra are used to identify the presence of a particular element, molecule or compound by measuring the amount of energy absorbed by a sample as a function of wavelength. This gives us information about the atomic and molecular structure of a sample and can be used to investigate chemical processes, such as oxidation and reduction. In addition, absorption spectra can be used to detect and characterize pollutants in the environment. Absorption spectra are therefore an invaluable tool for scientists and engineers in many different fields.
