Tinea
Tinea is a fungal infection of the skin, or what is commonly known as ringworm. It is caused by a variety of fungal species, such as Trichophyton and Microsporum. Tinea is highly contagious and can spread from person to person by skin contact or sharing of contaminated clothing, bedding, or towels. It can also spread from animals to humans. The infection is characterized by circular red rashes that are usually itchy and often accompanied by blisters and scaling. When left untreated, tinea can spread to other parts of the body. Treatment of tinea involves antifungal medication and maintaining good personal hygiene such as washing hands and keeping the skin dry. This is especially important for people with weakened immune systems, as tinea can be more severe in these cases.
