Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer. It affects the outermost layer of the skin, called the epidermis. If not treated promptly, it can spread to other parts of the body. Squamous cell carcinoma is caused by overexposure to UV radiation, either from the sun or tanning beds, as well as other environmental factors. Early detection and prompt treatment are the best ways to stop it from spreading and improve chances of survival. Treatments can include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and topical medications. Squamous cell carcinoma can be a serious health risk, but once it is identified and treated, the chances of full recovery are good.
