Soft Tissue Infections
Soft tissue infections are bacterial or fungal infections of the tissue located just beneath the skin, such as muscles, tendons, and fat. They can range in severity from mild, localized skin infections to life-threatening conditions. Treatment usually involves antibiotics or antifungals, as well as wound care. Soft tissue infections are one of the most common medical conditions encountered in emergency departments and primary care settings, with significant morbidity and mortality, especially in the elderly and immunocompromised patients. Early diagnosis and prompt, appropriate therapy can help decrease the risk of serious consequences.
