Sebaceous Glands
Sebaceous glands are small glands found in the skin of humans and many other animals. They secrete an oily substance called sebum which helps to keep the skin lubricated and soft, as well as providing a barrier against water loss. Sebum also contains substances with antibacterial and anti-fungal properties which help to protect the skin from infection. Sebaceous glands are particularly important in areas such as the scalp, face and chest, where they help to keep the skin healthy and maintain its youthful appearance.
