Scabies

Scabies is an infestation of the skin caused by the microscopic mite Sarcoptes scabiei. The female mite burrows into the top layer of skin, leading to intense itching and a pimple-like rash. Scabies is highly contagious and can be spread through direct skin-to-skin contact or contact with contaminated clothing, bedding, and furniture. Diagnosis is usually made through visual inspection. Treatment involves the application of a topical cream to kill the mites and reduce symptoms. Scabies is most common in crowded and unsanitary living conditions and affects millions of people around the world. It is treatable, but can lead to serious complications if left untreated.
