Pruritus
Pruritus is a medical condition characterized by the sensation of itchiness. It is generally caused by the irritation of the nerve endings in the skin and often leads to scratching, which can further exacerbate skin damage. This condition can be caused by a range of conditions, including infections, allergies, and skin diseases such as eczema. Pruritus can also be caused by medications and other systemic diseases such as diabetes and kidney disease. Treatment of pruritus depends on the underlying cause and may include topical or oral anti-itch medications, skin moisturizers, and antihistamines. Pruritus is a common medical condition and its early recognition and treatment helps in avoiding complications such as skin damage and secondary infections.
