Pellagra

Pellagra is a disease caused by a dietary deficiency of niacin, which is one of the B vitamins. It is usually associated with diets that are based heavily on corn, which is a low source of niacin. Symptoms of pellagra typically include scaly and inflamed skin, damage to the digestive tract, dementia, and even death if left untreated. It is a preventable condition and can be effectively treated with niacin supplementation. Early recognition and treatment of pellagra is crucial to prevent further complications.
