Microbiome
The microbiome is the collective name for the trillions of bacteria and microorganisms that live in and on our body, mainly in our gut. These microbial communities play a vital role in our health and wellbeing, as they interact with our bodies to help regulate our immune system, digestion, and metabolism. By understanding how changes in the microbiome can impact our health, we can use this knowledge to develop therapies that promote health and prevent disease. For example, recent studies have linked imbalances in the microbiome (dysbiosis) to autoimmune diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, and other conditions. Research into the microbiome is ongoing and promises to uncover new discoveries that can ultimately improve our lives.
