Leukoplakia

Leukoplakia is a white or gray patch that appears on the inside of the mouth. It is usually benign, non-cancerous, and caused by frequent irritation, such as smoking or chewing tobacco. In some cases, however, it can develop into oral cancer, making regular screening and medical attention extremely important. Leukoplakia is more common in smokers and people with weakened immune systems. Treatment may involve corticosteroids, retinoids, and laser therapy, among others. Early diagnosis and treatment of leukoplakia can help prevent it from progressing to cancer.
