Growth Factors
Growth factors are substances produced by cells that regulate the proliferation and differentiation of cells. They are secreted proteins that act as signalling molecules that can bind to receptors on the surface of target cells and activate cell signalling pathways. Growth factors are key components of cell signalling and are involved in a range of physiological processes, including cell growth and development, immune responses, and wound healing. They play a vital role in many aspects of biology, including stem cell research, tissue engineering and drug development. Growth factors are increasingly being used in medical treatments, such as regenerative medicine and cancer therapy.
