Epithelial Cells
Epithelial cells are thin, flattened cells that form a continuous sheet of cells over the surface of the body, including the skin and all internal organs. They are a critical component of the body's defense against infection and disease, as well as its ability to carry out efficient nutrient and fluid exchange. These cells line body cavities, and provide protection from drying, injury and infection. Their function is crucial to the system, as they are the main component of the human body's barrier against infection and absorption of nutrients. Additionally, epithelial cells play an important role in the regulation of body temperature, fluid balance, hormone production, and the production of mucus. These cells are also capable of cell division, which is important for tissue regeneration and healing.
