Dermatology Photodermatology and Skin Aging
Photodermatology is a branch of dermatology that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases caused or worsened by light exposure. Photodermatology studies the effects of ultraviolet radiation on the skin, including skin cancer, premature skin aging, and immune system abnormalities. Photodermatology also includes the diagnosis and treatment of other skin conditions caused or worsened by light exposure, such as vitiligo, porphyria, melasma, and solar urticaria. Photodermatology treatments include topical medications, photodynamic therapy, chemical peels, and laser treatments. Photodermatology is an important specialty of dermatology, as increased exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun and other sources is becoming an ever-increasing public health concern.
