Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is a chronic, itchy skin condition characterized by grouped, itchy, blister-like lesions. This condition is sometimes referred to as Duhring's disease. It is caused by an abnormal reaction to gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. DH is thought to be an autoimmune disorder, as it involves the body attacking its own skin cells in response to gluten. DH can be difficult to diagnose and is often misdiagnosed as other skin conditions. Treatment consists of dietary modifications, medications, and lifestyle changes. Although DH is not curable, it can be managed with proper care.
