Blindness
due to Diabetes Blindness due to diabetes (also known as diabetic retinopathy) is a medical condition in which the retina of the eye is damaged due to uncontrolled high blood sugar levels. It is the leading cause of adult blindness in developed countries. Early detection and treatment are important to prevent the progression of diabetic retinopathy to more severe stages, in which vision loss is more likely. Treatment options include anti-VEGF drugs, photocoagulation, and vitrectomy. With timely diagnosis and proper management, individuals with diabetes can reduce their risk of blindness.
