Blastomycosis

Blastomycosis is a severe fungal infection caused by the organism Blastomyces dermatitidis. It can affect multiple organs, most notably the lungs, and can cause a range of symptoms including a fever, cough, chest pain, and fatigue. Early diagnosis and treatment with medications can improve a patient's prognosis and reduce the severity of symptoms. Blastomycosis is most commonly seen in people who live in or have recently visited areas with moist soil and decaying vegetation, such as parts of the Midwest and Southcentral United States, as well as Canada and Africa. It is important for individuals who may be at risk for Blastomycosis to be aware of the symptoms and to seek medical attention if they occur.
