Bejel

Bejel is a chronic contagious infection caused by the Treponema pallidum bacteria, which affects the mucous membranes and skin, resulting in pain and swelling. This infection is also known as endemic syphilis and has been identified in various countries around the world, particularly in lower-income settings. Bejel can lead to complications in children and adults, including deformities and hearing or vision loss. Bejel is a potentially serious infection, and can be prevented by avoiding close contact with an infected person and practicing safe sex. Treatment includes antibiotics such as penicillin or intramuscular injections. If not treated promptly, the condition may cause long-term complications and may even be fatal. Therefore, it is important to seek medical advice in order to ensure early diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
