Allergies
Allergies are an overreaction of the body's immune system to something that is typically harmless. When an affected person comes into contact with an allergen, their body produces an antibody called Immunoglobulin E (IgE) which causes the release of histamine and other chemicals that lead to common allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose, breathing difficulties, coughing, irritation on the skin, rashes and in extreme cases, anaphylaxis. Allergies are very common and affect people of all ages, genders and ethnicities. Treatment of allergies may involve avoiding the source of the allergen, as well as taking medications such as antihistamines to reduce the symptoms.
