Albinism
Albinism is a rare genetic disorder characterized by a lack of pigmentation in the skin, hair, and eyes. It is caused by mutations in genes that code for the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for color in these parts of the body. People with albinism may have a range of vision problems, such as reduced vision and extreme sensitivity to light. They are also at a higher risk of developing skin cancer due to their lack of protective pigment. Albinism is a lifelong condition and currently there is no cure, however treatments including glasses, avoidance of direct sunlight, and sun protection can help individuals manage the condition.
