Traumatizing Events

Traumatizing events are experiences that are so unbearable or shocking that they cause intense psychological distress. They can range from acute and singular occurrences, such as witnessing a car accident or developing a serious illness, to ongoing experiences of abuse, neglect, and discrimination. Traumatizing events can have a long-term impact on an individual’s mental health, including heightened anxiety and depression, and can even manifest in physical symptoms. By understanding the effects of trauma and providing appropriate support, people can process their experiences in a healthy way and possibly prevent long-term psychological issues.
