Test Anxiety
Test anxiety is a psychological condition where stress, worry and/or fear become so intense that it affects a person’s ability to perform well on tests or other important tasks. It can be caused by a range of factors including lack of preparation, fear of failure, fear of judgement, fear of embarrassment, perfectionism, and low self-esteem. Test anxiety can lead to physical symptoms such as sweating, headaches, stomachaches, and difficulty breathing. It can also lead to psychological symptoms such as poor concentration, trouble organizing thoughts, negative self-talk, avoidance of the task, and anxiety. With appropriate interventions and strategies, test anxiety can be managed, leading to improved test and academic performance. Common interventions include relaxation techniques, cognitive restructuring, self-talk, goal setting, building study skills, and seeking professional help.
