Stage Fright
Stage fright, also known as performance anxiety, is a psychological phenomenon that can affect performers and public speakers before or during a performance. It is characterized by physical symptoms such as increased heart rate, trembling, sweating, and a feeling of butterflies in the stomach. It can also involve cognitive symptoms such as difficulty concentrating or thinking clearly, feelings of insecurity, or low self-esteem. Stage fright is a common experience, with up to 80% of people experiencing it in varying degrees. It often leads to decreased performance quality, however it can also act as a motivator and can be managed through cognitive behavior therapy, relaxation techniques, and supportive practice.
