Postnatal Depression
Postnatal depression (PND) is a form of depression that occurs after childbirth. Symptoms of PND can include persistent sadness, low mood, exhaustion, anxiety and difficulty bonding with the baby. It is a serious mental health disorder and can have a long-term impact on the mother, baby and family. PND affects around 10-15% of women after childbirth and can occur up to a year after childbirth if left untreated. It is important to seek professional help to identify and treat PND early, as this will help the mother, baby and family achieve the best possible outcome. Treatment options can include psychological therapies, such as cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness, as well as medications. With appropriate treatment, PND can be effectively managed, allowing parents to enjoy their baby and enjoy life.
