Paranoia
Paranoia is a mental disorder characterized by highly distorted perceptions of reality, including unfounded beliefs and unfounded suspicions about others and about the environment. It can range from mild to severe and can cause significant impairment in one's day-to-day life and social functioning. The causes of paranoia vary, but can include genetic, environmental, and psychological factors. Treatment for paranoia typically involves medication to help manage symptoms and therapy to help address underlying causes and develop coping strategies. Challenges in effectively treating paranoia include difficulty in identifying and accurately diagnosing the disorder, difficulty in establishing a trusting relationship with patients, and difficulty in ensuring ongoing compliance with treatment plans.
