Panic Attack

A panic attack is an episode of intense fear or worry that usually hits unexpectedly, often in response to a particular trigger. Symptoms can include increased heart rate, chest pain, difficulty breathing, having a feeling of being out of control, and an intense feeling of impending doom. Panic attacks are thought to be a symptom of anxiety disorders, but can also have other causes such as physical illness. Treatments focus on learning how to manage anxiety and identifying and addressing the sources of anxiety. With proper treatment and support, people who experience panic attacks can successfully manage their symptoms and lead normal, productive lives.
