Depressive Disorder, Major
Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a mental disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, emptiness, worthlessness, and loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It affects the way an individual thinks, feels, and behaves and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. MDD is one of the most common mental health conditions, with estimates of its prevalence ranging from 16-19 percent of the population. Treatment of MDD is often a combination of psychotherapy, medications, and lifestyle changes. Treatment has been shown to reduce symptoms, improve functioning, and reduce the risk of relapse.
