Depression Aging
Depression aging is a disorder characterized by a persistent feeling of sadness, emptiness, hopelessness and/or lack of energy that lasts for more than two weeks and can have a significant impact on life functioning. It is one of the most frequent and disabling conditions in the elderly population, affecting one in five senior citizens. Depression aging can cause a range of physical and mental health issues, such as greater physical frailty, increased risk of cognitive decline and increased risk of mortality. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment are key to optimal management of depression aging and improved quality of life. Treatments may include psychotherapy, medication and lifestyle changes, such as improved sleep and stress management.
