Jaw Surgery

Jaw surgery, also known as orthognathic surgery, is a dental procedure that corrects a wide range of jaw and facial abnormalities. This surgery is usually done to improve the patient's facial appearance or enhance their ability to chew, speak, and breathe properly. Jaw surgery is often performed in combination with orthodontic treatment to correct the alignment of the teeth. This surgery is recommended for people with severe jaw and facial irregularities, such as a receding lower jaw, an overly prominent chin or jawline, or a severely misaligned bite. The procedure involves cutting the jawbone, repositioning it, and securing it in place with plates and screws. Orthognathic surgery can take several hours, and the patient may need to stay in the hospital for up to two days after the procedure. Recovery time varies depending on the extent of the surgery, but most patients can return to their normal activities within a few weeks. Oral implants are another dentistry procedure that replace missing teeth with a natural-looking artificial tooth. This process involves inserting a titanium screw into the jawbone, which fuses with the bone over time. A dental crown is then placed on top of the screw, providing a strong and durable replacement for the missing tooth. Dental implants are an excellent alternative to traditional removable dentures and bridges. They offer many benefits, such as improved chewing ability and enhanced speech, and they look and feel just like natural teeth. Overall, jaw surgery and oral implants are two essential dentistry procedures that can improve the appearance and functionality of the mouth and teeth. If you are experiencing dental problems such as a misaligned jaw, missing teeth, or other oral issues, talk to your dentist to find out if these procedures are right for you.
